What exactly is Matcha?

Matcha is a very popular green tea from Japan with a vibrant green color. Matcha is getting popular in the United States and Europe because of its health benefits. It is available as green tea powder and it is a traditional food ingredient in Japan. These days Matcha drinks are in high demand in cafes and bars, because of its appeal as a natural and healthy weight loss product that is rich in antioxidants.

Both the regular green tea and matcha come from the same plant – Camellia Sinensis. The main difference between the two is the way they are processed. Well, there is minimal processing while making matcha. Once the tea leaves are dried, they are milled with grinding stones which results in a fine powder. So your matcha drink contains hundreds of tea leaves. On the other hand, in regular green tea, leaves are soaked in hot water, and you get only the nutrients that flow into the water.

So, when you are drinking matcha, you consume the leaf in its whole form. You thus get the plant nutrients in a concentrated form when you drink matcha.

Matcha powder can be mixed with warm as well as cold liquids. It can be also used in food. Matcha is used in Japanese tea serving ceremonies, but it is interesting to note that it has many health benefits.

Health Benefits of Matcha Green Tea

Matcha is one of the most nutritious types of green tea. This is because the whole leaves are used in its preparation, and the real potential of green tea can only be utilized if consumed in whole form.

One cup of matcha contains vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and amino acids in an amount equivalent to 10 cups of regular green tea. So, when it comes to getting and maintaining an optimal health, matcha tea is unparalleled.

Some of its main health benefits of matcha are:

  • It is full of antioxidants
  • It is rich in fiber
