Super Food Smoothie with Goji Berries and Incan Berries

Are you looking for a breakfast smoothies that can give you the energy boost to last long till your lunch? Then, you should try this gorgeous bright orange smoothie made with two Super Foods – Goji Berries and Incan Berries. This is one of my all-time favorite raw super food smoothie recipes for starting the day, or just any time you really want a “zing” for your taste buds and energy. My daughter just loves this one. It’s the recipe she most requests, and it includes two super foods on my Top-10 Superfoods List.

Goji Berries – King of Super Foods

Goji Berries could be considered “the king of superfoods”. They look like little red raisins, and easily beat out oranges for their Vitamin C content, carrots for their beta carotene, and steak for their iron. They’re high in antioxidants and Vitamin B, and they’re a complete protein source (all 18 primary amino acids , and a few more), very rare for a fruit.

Goji berries are small fruits, red in color, and are consumed for thousands of years in China, Tibet and India, because of their health benefits. They also slow the aging process. In July 2006, Time Magazine named Goji Berries as the Superfood of the Year, and since then the popularity of these berries has grown in the United States, Japan, Canada and Europe.

In Chinese medicine, they are considered the number one food or herb! Goji Berries are considered an “adaptogen”, which helps normalize system functions throughout your body, whether they are “high” or “low” (as in, helps you whether you’re hypo-glycemic or hyper-glycemic, or whether your blood pressure is high or low). Peruvian Golden Incan Berries

Golden Incan Berries from Peru are another potent adaptogen with high protein (slighter higher percentage-wise over the Goji berries, actually). They’re high in Vitamin C and other vitamins, as well as in bioflavanoids (super-useful little critters for protecting your general health) and pectin (great for helping to lower cholesterol). They are also wildly tart! Bite into one of those babies and they’re sure to wake you up in a jiffy!

Paired with the oranges, this smoothie actually tastes very much like a raw “sweet tart” candy. And the addition of coconut cream gives a creamy undertone, sweet taste and warm energy to start the day or to re-energize later on!

Goji Berry and Incan Berry Super Food Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1/4 Cup Goji Berries Soaked for one hour
  • 1/4 Cup Incan Berries Soaked for one hour
  • 2 Sweet Organges Peeled and seeded
  • 2 tbsp Coconut Cream
  • 32 oz Water

Instructions

  1. Blend everything together until smooth. Add 1-2 cups ice and blend again.
  2. Make sure to soak the goji and incan berries for at least one hour. If you’re blender is not a high-powdered one, you’re going to have some satisfyingly chewy bits of berries to munch on at the bottom of your glass. Incan Berries for some reason are surprisingly the hardest things I’ve yet found to break down completely. But they’re fun to chew. They’re tart enough to elicit a good shiver, at times. 🙂

This recipe is sweet enough for me, but if you like it sweeter, just add a banana or a bit of raw honey.
